How a call runs

Three moves, in this order

  1. Tell us what the cabinet is doing

The model and serial from the plate inside the fresh-food door, and a plain description: what changed, when it changed, and whether anything was moved, defrosted or re-plugged first. Half of these calls are half-diagnosed before anyone leaves.

  2. Readings, not opinions

Return-air and evaporator temperatures, defrost cycle behaviour, condenser and evaporator fan draw, door seal and closure. Gauges go on the sealed system only when the readings point there — putting them on first is how a good compressor gets condemned.

  3. A figure before the panel comes off

Parts and labour together, in one number, before anything is dismantled. If the honest answer is that the cabinet is past economic repair, you get told that instead — it is a shorter conversation and a cheaper one.

Coverage

How far the van goes

The four neighbourhoods below are where the calls cluster, but the run covers the peninsula and the inner suburbs too: Charlestown, Fenway, Back Bay, the Waterfront, Brookline, Somerville and Cambridge. Parking, permits and building loading windows are worked out on the phone before a slot is booked, because on these streets that is the part that decides whether a visit happens at all.

Buildings with a service lift or a booked loading dock: tell us at the time of the call and the slot is picked to match.

What we repair

Four cabinets, one trade

  • Condenser coil and compressor at the back of a pulled-out cabinet with manifold gauges attached and a tool bag on the floor

    Refrigerator Repair

Built-in Sub-Zero columns and over-under units across the city, from garden-level kitchens on the Hill to condominium galleys in the South End. The work runs to sealed-system cooling loss, dual-compressor behaviour, defrost and control faults, and the door and gasket wear that follows years of hard city use.

Most called about Fresh food side warming while the freezer stays cold

  • A circulation fan behind its opened cover inside an appliance compartment, with a finned coil alongside it

    Freezer Repair

Under-counter freezer drawers and full-height freezer columns that frost over, run warm, or cycle without stopping. Frost pattern and drain behaviour usually say whether the fault sits in defrost, in air circulation, or in the sealed system itself.

Most called about Heavy frost building on the rear wall of the freezer

    Freezer Repair in Boston →
  • An ice mould part-filled with cubes above two clear storage bins, with meter probes on the control board below

    Ice Maker Repair

Clear-ice machines and freezer-mounted ice modules that stop producing, freeze up at the fill tube, or push out hollow, cloudy or undersized cubes. Fill valves, supply lines and a stalled harvest cycle are the usual suspects behind older city plumbing.

Most called about No ice at all after a full day

Ice Maker Repair in Boston →
  • A twin glass-door wine cabinet standing open with bottles on every rack and a probe thermometer held at the opening

    Wine Cooler Repair

Single and dual-zone wine storage that drifts off its set point, sweats behind the glass, or hums loudly enough to carry into the next room. Zone control, door seals and condenser airflow account for most of these calls.

Most called about Upper zone holding a very different temperature than the lower

Warm on the fresh side and the display kept flickering at us. He traced it to a tired control board rather than the sealed system, which was a relief given how old this unit is.

Racks were warm to the touch by evening. The condenser was matted and the little fan barely turned. Cleaned out, new fan, holding its set point.

The fresh food side crept up to fifty overnight while the freezer held fine. Condenser was packed with dust from the garden level and the fan motor was dragging. Cleaned, fan replaced, back to temperature by evening.

Tell us what the cabinet is doing

Model and serial from the plate inside the door, what changed and when. That is usually enough for a straight answer about whether it needs a visit — and the $95 service call covers the visit and the full diagnosis when it does.
